We had a great day and a walking tour of the BURG downtown. We went to three fair trade shops and learned about why it's great to shop fair trade at 10,000 villages, Green Hummingbird, and Artisan's Hope. We saw all of the Trick or Treaters and enjoyed lunch at the fabulous Bowl of Good. This year is off to a great start!! Destiny and Katelyn enjoyed the FOOD FEST at EMU. Destiny says, "I had a really good time. I've never been around so many different types of people. It was amazing." And Katelyn bought a Fair Trade necklace and earrings from Colombia, and had tofu for the first time. She says, "My favorite was Femur Baladar." What have you been up to? Hope to see you at the International Festival!! Send me a pic and let me know what you did!!

The firstborn of each animal gift will be passed to another family in the community. Check out heifer.org! We made authentic food from around the world and hosted the dinner for our local Broadway Community. Don't miss it next year! Photos by Ashley McHenry and Anneke Martin. We had a great time at NOCHE BOHEMIA at EMU. It was all in Spanish! We sang, we laughed, we ate, and we could understand!!
Here's what we did, and what we had to say. Hope to see you there next year!!! "The international festival was fun and something different that I haven't done before I saw a group of people doing an Aztec dance, and I went around to the different tents and learned some facts about country's all over the world, then I ate some Thai food that was very good, and I bought an international festival cookbook and shirt. Over all I really enjoyed the international festival and I will definitely go next year. And my Dad went with me to the festival and he liked it also." -Katelyn D. "On Saturday I went to the International Festival. I was really looking forward to this because it is one of my favorite events of the year. My favorite part is definitely the food. I normally get Indian food but this year I got Thai and it was delicious. It is also fun sitting there eating while listening to live music. We heard a band that sounded like they were from Jamaica. It just amazes me how many different cultures we have in Harrisonburg. I also bought a necklace and a bracelet and I LOVE them both!" - Keeana M. "When I went to the International Festival on Saturday, I went when it was pouring down with rain. I went with my mom and my boyfriend Jackson. We had our rain coats on and our umbrellas. I saw a lot of different cultures I’ve never seen before. There were Gypsies, Americans, Hispanics, Native Americans, and many more. Almost everyone who participated from different cultures were dressed in beautiful colorful clothes. When I left, I didn’t come out empty handed. I bought an International Festival 18th Annual shirt and a green and black scarf handmade from Jamaica. Next year I’m definitely going back, hopefully the sun will be out!!" Probamos nieve de Italia. y nos quedamos sentadas mirando a personas bailar" - -Nancy R. "The International Festival was just as fun as it was last year. It was fun to see people dressed in their traditional clothing, and hear people speaking different languages. There was so many different food options, and lots of different booths to visit. I enjoyed seeing clothing and jewelry from different countries. Me and my friend wanted to try a little bit of every food, but we ended up getting Mexican and Thai. We also got full mango on a stick with chile, and salt sprinkled over it. Definitely my favorite. The weather was perfect and it was fun to hear the bands play. It's definitely something worth going to!" Madi M. International festival was so much Fun! Many New experiances and some great food too!" -Keely Y.
